Cosmetic injectables are agents injected into the skin to help minimise the appearance of wrinkles and gummy smiles and also help relax the muscles in your jaw joints if you grind/clench your teeth.
When you visit Silas Street Dental, we undertake a thorough examination of your mouth, lips, gums and jaw joints to assess your overall oral health. We’ll discuss your needs and concerns relating to cosmetic injectables and, depending on the purpose, we take impressions of your bite and photographs before your treatment begins.
Our Principal Dentist, Dr Mark Davies has completed advanced training in the area of facial injectables. Treatment can help to limit the muscle activity and fill in wrinkles around the mouth that affect your appearance. You may consider facial injectables to address:
- face shape
- lips, lip lines or gummy smile (excessive gum exposure)
- marionette lines, accordion lines, smile lines, bunny lines
- naso-labial folds
- frown lines and forehead wrinkles
- headaches caused by clenching/grinding
Cosmetic injections are commonly administered without sedation, although numbing gel is used. Local anaesthetic is sometimes helpful for treatment if icing the area is insufficient for the patient’s comfort. After your treatment, you’ll be given an instruction sheet to help you return to your normal activities.
Facial injectables have a temporary effect and can last between 3 to 6 months depending on the patient. It is always advisable to return to the surgery for the particular appointment schedule advised by your dentist – this compliance ensures a maximised effect and is in your best interest. As with any invasive treatment, you should seek a second opinion if you have any concerns.
