Crowns and Bridges

Restoration of damaged, decayed, fractured or missing teeth is often addressed with dental crowns and bridges. Crowns and bridges differ from dentures because they are cemented onto existing teeth or implants and can only be removed by a dentist. Unlike most dentures, crowns and bridges do not adversely affect the health of the gums. At Silas St Dental, we specialize in crowns and bridges.

The tooth is prepared by removing a small amount from the outside surface of the tooth, thereby creating a shoulder, or base, on which the porcelain crown (sometimes known as a ‘cap’) can be securely attached. This is a very effective way for many patients to save or strengthen teeth which have been heavily filled, damaged or cracked.

A dental bridge can be used to replace missing teeth. A common problem of missing teeth is the subsequent movement of other teeth that are without support. A bridge literally bridges the space created by missing teeth by anchoring to crowns on either side of the gap. Dental bridges are a quick and effective alternative to implants, improving your bite, ability to chew, and appearance.

If missing teeth are causing you trouble with chewing or creating problems with speech or appearance, contact Silas St Dental today to schedule an appointment.
