Gum (periodontal) disease treatment
Gingivitis is a serious bacterial infection in your mouth caused by a gradual build-up of plaque. When plaque hardens it becomes tartar, which harms your gums, can cause them to become inflamed, and subsequently recede.
Periodontitis is the inflammation of the gums and other supporting tissues of the teeth (eg the periodontal ligament which attaches the tooth to the bone) and usually results in slow, insidious bone loss around the teeth. This will, in turn, result in loose, painful teeth.
Bad breath, tooth sensitivity, sore/bleeding/swollen/receding gums, and gum abscesses can all be signs of gum disease. If you have concerns in this area, we strongly recommend you contact us immediately.
Proper brushing and flossing everyday is your best chance of preventing gingivitis and periodontitis. Regular dental assessments and professional cleans are necessary to remove tartar and to detect and treat any advanced gum disease.
You can learn effective daily plaque removal methods and oral hygiene maintenance techniques during your consultation at Silas St Dental.
